The golden rules to prevent staff from stealing

Inside jobs are always the most difficult to stop, which is why this retail boss has laid out these rules to prevent employees from stealing from the company, according to a post shared on Hong Kong Discuss Forum .

1. Employees are not allowed to carry their wallets during office hours.
It is common not to allow employees in front line roles to carry their smartphones to ensure the quality of service, but wallets? According to the explanation from this boss, this is to avoid the trouble of searching employees’ wallets in case money has been stolen from the company.

But this boss seems to have forgotten something important: why a thief would put stolen cash in his or her wallet?

2. Employees are not allowed to take any bags when they go out for lunch.
Again the boss is not taking any risks with employees taking items out of the store. This is a nuisance for employees who cannot carry their phones, wallets or even a packet of tissues when they are out for lunch.

3. Fine employees for losing the employee handbook.
This last rule has nothing to do with preventing staff from stealing, but it does reveal the leadership quality of this boss.

Each employee was given five copies of the employee handbook when they joined. They have to return them when they leave the company, if not they will be fined HK$200 for losing one copy or HK$1000 in case all five copies are lost.
