Many people believe their characteristics and personality traits are attributed to their star sign and make several decisions in life – including those about their career – based on the zodiac.
Some well-known believers in astrology over the years have included Nancy Reagan, who famously consulted the help of an astrologer to plan her husband’s (then-US president Ronald Reagan) presidential schedule, and financier J.P. Morgan who was quoted saying, “Millionaires don’t use astrology, billionaires do!”
After discovering a number of hiring managers in China discriminate against candidates based on their star sign, we figured it can’t hurt to see whether your career is aligned with your astrological characteristics.
Aquarius (January 20 – February 18)
Aquarians are independent, innovative and forward thinkers. They like to know what they’re getting themselves into before investing in an assignment, and prefer to do things their way. However, this should not be seen as insubordination or disrespect for rules, because they will always have the best interests of their projects in mind.
Pisces (February 19 – March 20)
One of the most compassionate signs of the zodiac, Pisces work well in roles such as social work. Pisces also tend to completely throw themselves into whatever they’re working on, and make good colleagues because of their comforting presence.
Aries (March 21 – April 20)
Arians need demanding job roles, especially those involving intellectual challenges. They are also known to be ambitious, problem solvers and natural leaders. They also like to be mobile, as the freedom increases their creativity.
Taurus (April 21 – May 21)
Taureans are determined, hardworking and resilient workers, much like their animal sign – the bull. However, they are most comfortable working at a slow and steady pace, and aren’t known to be risk-takers or take to change very well.
Gemini (May 21 – Jun 20)
Those who fall under the Gemini sign are thinkers and very people-orientated. Because of their outgoing personality, it is uncommon to find them inspiring others in the office, coming up with bright new ideas and expressing themselves through their work.
Cancer (Jun 21 – Jul 22)
Cancerians are kind and protective by nature, and would fare well in roles such as law, teaching or nursing. They are also very emotional and sympathetic, but are adaptable and loyal to their careers.
Leo (July 23 – August 22)
Leos, much like the lion, are strong, powerful and confident. They are often attracted to leadership roles, but may be put off by traditional hierarchical working structures. However, they also desire to be recognised for their work, but their charm and personality more than make up for it.
Virgo (August 23 – September 22)
Virgos are very committed to their jobs and pay attention to the smallest of details. They are also very well organised, have great people skills, and therefore make perfect HR practitioners. However, their love for their job may cause challenges in work-life balance.
Libra (September 23 – October 22)
Librans works best in a relaxed environment, and often have a neat working space. Relationships mean a lot to them; they thrive when not flying solo on a project or assignment, and need a bit more freedom to really be a success.
Scorpio (October 23 – November 21)
Scorpios are drawn to complicated tasks which require a lot of analytical and problem-solving skills. They are also very resourceful and independent workers and would be well suited to roles in politics, law, and banking.
Sagittarius (November 11 – December 21)
Sagittarians need constant change and challenges, and thrive under pressure and deadlines. They are often more than ready to get the job done, but are also carefree in nature. However, this leads to them often missing out on details as they’re more focused on the big picture.
Capricorn (December 22 – January 19)
Capricorns are pragmatic and responsible, making them an ideal choice for leadership positions. While they may not be very people-oriented, they are extremely professional and dedicated to their jobs.
