Indonesia's Minister of Manpower, Ida Fauziyah has emphasised the importance of digitalisation in managing the placement of Indonesian migrant workers — particularly, that digitising governance will improve aspects of protection for Indonesian migrant workers.
Speaking at the Labour Attaché Coordination Meeting in Seoul, South Korea, Minister Ida shared: "Currently we have entered the era of digitalisation, and the management of the placement of Indonesian migrant workers must be carried out through an integrated system between the system owned by the destination country and the system owned by Indonesia.
"This is very important to ensure that labour migration is carried out safely, directed and orderly as mandate of the Global Compact Migration."
She further affirmed that with an integrated digital system, monitoring of Indonesian migrant workers can be carried out more effectively from before, during, and after work, "ensuring they receive proper protection."
Minister Ida also advised the Labor Attaché, Employment Technical Staff, and Head of the Labor Division to be able to carry out their duties and functions well, study and understand various regulations related to the placement and protection of migrant workers, including labor regulations in the destination country of placement.
The coordination meeting was attended by labor attachés, technical staff, and heads of labour, as well as officials and staff of the Indonesian Embassy in the Republic of Korea.
