Amazon rolls out expanded transition support for 16,000 employees impacted by recent organisational changes

Addressing concerns over the possibility of recurring large-scale layoffs, Beth Galetti, SVP of People Experience and Technology, said the changes do not signal a new pattern of frequent broad reductions.

Amazon has announced further organisational changes that will impact approximately 16,000 roles globally, with the company placing emphasis on internal redeployment and transition support for affected employees.

In an internal message to employees, Beth Galetti, Senior Vice President of People Experience and Technology, said the latest reductions are part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen the organisation by reducing layers, increasing ownership, and removing bureaucracy. While many teams completed restructuring efforts in October, others finalised these changes only recently.

To support impacted employees, Galetti said most US-based staff whose roles are affected will be given up to 90 days to seek alternative roles internally, with timelines varying internationally in line with local regulations. Employees who are unable to secure a new role within the organisation, or who choose not to pursue redeployment, will receive transition support including severance pay, outplacement services, and continued health insurance benefits where applicable.

Galetti reiterated that despite the workforce reductions, the company's commitment to continued hiring and investment in strategic areas and functions critical to its long-term growth. The company noted it remains in the early stages of building many of its businesses, with significant opportunities ahead.

Addressing concerns over the possibility of recurring large-scale layoffs, the leader said the changes do not signal a new pattern of frequent broad reductions. Instead, teams will continue to assess ownership, speed, and capacity to innovate, making adjustments as needed in response to a rapidly changing business environment.
