A further 6,125 roles will be created across other support services needed to keep health facilities running and help patients receive care more smoothly.
The Malaysia government has approved 13,343 new positions in the Ministry of Health (MOH), bringing more doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other frontline workers into a public healthcare system facing growing demand.
The new roles, as stated by the Public Service Division (JPA), will support the opening and expansion of 256 health facilities nationwide. They are newly created positions, rather than replacements for existing vacancies, and carry an estimated annual cost of RM1.25bn.
Nurses make up the largest group of appointments, with 3,471 positions approved, followed by 1,972 assistant medical officers, 1,197 medical officers, 339 pharmacists and 239 dental officers.

Since 2019, JPA has certified 66,312 new non-replacement positions for the Ministry. The latest approval is intended to give the health system more capacity as new facilities come online and communities require more accessible services.
Separately, JPA said the government is also revising how ministries coordinate programmes under the Bumiputera Economic Transformation Plan 2035, known as PuTERA35.
Under General Circular No. 2 of 2025, Bumiputera Empowerment Units will be strengthened across ministries to coordinate and monitor 132 PuTERA35 initiatives. The units, previously known as UPAB, will be reorganised and rebranded as UPB, with oversight placed under each ministry’s deputy secretary-general responsible for policy and strategic planning.
