To stay ahead, companies must make learning a habit, not a chore. Here’s how the team at Infosys Compaz is achieving this by keeping learning easy, accessible, and meaningful, shares Nohrin Verzosa, SVP, Human Resources.
Remember when a diploma guaranteed a lifelong career? Well, those days are long gone. Today, roles are evolving fast, and AI is reshaping jobs – making continuous learning essential.
At Infosys Compaz (iCompaz), the first step in building a future-ready workforce was recognising that employees want flexible, personalised learning embedded into their daily routines.
By making learning accessible and relevant, iCompaz has fostered a culture where growth never stops. This earned the team a silver win at the Employee Experience Awards 2025, Singapore for two categories:
- ‘Best Learning Technology Implementation’, and
- ‘Best Learning Culture Journey’.
Fresh off the stage, Nohrin Verzosa, SVP, Human Resources, shares with HRO the secrets to iCompaz’s success in keeping employees engaged and future ready.
Q Please share with us the journey of building a culture of learning at Infosys Compaz.
Infosys Compaz (iCompaz) observes that in the past, earning a certificate, diploma, or degree was often sufficient to secure employment and build a lasting career. Upon graduation, young professionals typically entered the workforce equipped with the skills they needed, and many remained in the same role or a closely related occupation for years, sometimes even decades.
However, today’s world has changed dramatically. We are now navigating a fast-paced, ever-evolving environment where traditional jobs are disappearing and new, unfamiliar roles are emerging rapidly. Even long-established professions are undergoing transformation, increasingly shaped by technological advancements such as AI. The rapid access to information, the influence of social media, and the complexity of the global economy are all pushing individuals to continuously upskill and reskill in order to stay relevant in the modern workforce.
Q Why there is a need to build a learning culture at iCompaz?
In an era of accelerating change, organisations must adapt or risk falling behind. At iCompaz, the need to build a resilient and future-ready workforce is clear. A recent Harvard Business Publishing report found that 54% of the global workforce will require upskilling or reskilling by 2025. Furthermore, 85% of employees recognise they have skills gaps, yet only 41% believe their managers are aware of these. In another survey by Gartner, just 20% of workers felt confident in their ability to meet future job demands.
This widening skills gap poses a significant threat—not just to individual performance but to the broader goals of innovation and growth. At iCompaz, leadership has acknowledged this challenge and is taking proactive steps to foster a culture of continuous learning.
Q What are the key approaches or strategies in building a learning culture?
"The first step in developing a learning culture was to understand the way people’s approach to learning has changed. Learning has become 'learner-driven'. With countless digital platforms available, employees now expect learning to be flexible, relevant, and accessible."
A need to personalise learning experiences
The digital age has empowered individuals to access information anytime, anywhere. Platforms like YouTube and Google have become go-to sources for just-in-time learning. This shift means employees now expect learning to be personalised, relevant, and accessible.
At iCompaz, the learning strategy aligns organisational goals with employees' personal and professional development. While employees can and do take the initiative to learn independently, the organisation plays a key role in guiding that learning to ensure it is strategically aligned and impactful.
Make learning a habit
Technology changes rapidly, and employees need to adapt and keep up with the changing technology. Employee learning needs to be proactive in order for organisations to stay ahead of the game. The best way to do this is to make learning a hobby and organisations can enable this by making learning easy, accessible and meaningful.
At iCompaz, employees are gently prompted on learning opportunities through daily feeds, which encourage people to go for continuous learning and recommend goals for training. Employees are supported by ensuring that training aligns with their specific skills gap, and systems are created such that they allow employees to track what they’ve learned.
With technology evolving quickly, employees must continuously update their skills. iCompaz encourages this by integrating learning into daily routines through daily prompts for continuous.
By making learning easy and accessible, iCompaz ensures employees can keep pace and grow confidently in their roles.
Encouraging social e-learning in the workplace
There is a social aspect to learning. At school, we learn to work in groups and share ideas, resources, and information. At work, we do the same for those engaged in project work, especially in a cross multi-cultural working environment. On the personal front, we learn new things by joining interest groups such as Chinese calligraphy, golf, etc. At iCompaz, we realised learners adopt observation, interaction, behaviour and imitation as means of learning. Thus, iCompaz creates a workspace that encourages and enhances learning experiences through social learning opportunities.
Learning doesn’t happen in isolation. iCompaz understands that social interaction enhances learning, just as it does in schools and communities. Whether through cross-functional projects or shared interest groups, the workplace becomes a hub for collaborative learning.
Both physical and virtual spaces are designed to promote connection and the exchange of knowledge.
Monitor learning progress
To maximise engagement in training, check with employees on the type of learning materials they prefer. Monitor social engagement information related to learning. How much social interaction is there? How many employees share content or embark on knowledge sharing & retention?
To ensure its learning strategy delivers results, iCompaz closely monitors employee engagement with learning initiatives. This includes understanding preferences for content types, tracking participation in social learning, and measuring knowledge-sharing activities.
Q What are the key success factors?
Despite growing concerns about talent shortages and skills gaps, there’s a silver lining. People are learning faster and more frequently than ever before. Whether through blogs, podcasts, online courses, or interest groups, employees are eager to grow.
"The role of leadership is to nurture this enthusiasm, providing the structure, encouragement, and resources to embed learning deeply into the organisational culture."
At iCompaz, this commitment is more than a trend — it’s a long-term strategy to ensure both individuals and the business thrive in a constantly evolving world.
