Malaysia introduces National Training Week 2023, driven by MOHR and other ministries

The initiative, happening in May, serves to attract more than 5,000 trainers and collaborators who will deliver over 5,000 training courses and train up to 125,000 participants.

Malaysia's Minister of Human Resources YB Tuan V. Sivakumar has officiated the pre-launch ceremony of the National Training Week (NTW) 2023, together with Minister of Higher Education YB Dato' Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

NTW 2023 is set to take place between 22 May and 28 May nationwide, as a week of training events and activities that bring together organisations and individuals from various backgrounds and industries.

Conceptualised by the Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp), NTW 2023 aims to raise awareness about the importance of training, and inculcating a culture of lifelong learning among Malaysians. It will be driven by the Ministry of Human Resources, the Ministry of Higher Education, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, as well as other government agencies and departments.

NTW is the first venture of its kind in Malaysia, it was noted, and is looking to attract more than 5,000 trainers and collaborators who will deliver more than 5,000 training courses, train up to 125,000 participants including children from pre-school and senior citizens, record more than 500,000 hours of training, and deliver over RM250mn in training value.

As reported by NST, Minister Sivakumar said the training programmes will be offered for free by Malaysian organisations, for Malaysian individuals or groups. As further cited, the minister highlighted that with Malaysia facing a skill mismatch, and human capital being crucial to economic growth, the initiative will help address the issue in a meaningful manner.

"I urge all parties — from multinational organisations to small- and medium-scale enterprises, established training providers to individual trainers, and universities to technical and vocational education and training centres — to support the NTW," he was quoted as saying.
