Malaysia Airlines Berhad (MAB) will be training its employees to detect potential human traffickers and their victims among passengers.
Earlier this month (15 Nov), Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) declared zero-tolerance for human and wildlife trafficking, at the launch of its anti-human and anti-wildlife trafficking campaign at KL International Airport (KLIA).
MAG is a global aviation organisation with subsidiaries and equity investments organised into four distinct business segments: air transportation services (ATS), ground services, aircraft leasing, and talent development. The ATS houses Malaysia Airlines Berhad, Firefly and MASwings, network carriers serving the global and domestic markets and all passenger segments.
Speaking exclusively to Human Resources, Claudia Cadena, chief human resources officer at MAB, said the company will undertake training activities throughout 2018.
On how staff training will be carried out, she shared: “We are working with Majlis Anti Permerdagangan Orang (MAPO) on this matter. They are conducting ‘train the trainer’ sessions for our internal facilitators and trainers, and we will subsequently undertake the training for our employees.”
Describing the scope of employees who will participate in the training, Cadena said: “We intend to cover with utmost priority our frontliners like cabin crew, as well as ground and airport employees, but also would like to equip our support and back office staff with the required knowledge and information.”
MAB’s executive counsel, Nik Azli Abu Zahar stated in the release, “Over the past two years, Malaysia Airlines Berhad (MAB) has taken an active stance against human and wildlife trafficking.”
“Criminals rely heavily on air transportation to smuggle victims from one place to another and we wish to help put a stop to this. We will continue working together with the likes of MAPO to train and empower our staff, especially our cabin crew, to be our eyes in the skies and on ground to report any suspicious activities,” he affirmed.
