Dear Readers,
Are you all ready for a joyful and restful long weekend?
Even though we are spread across different parts of the world, many of us will be enjoying a long weekend this week – especially those in Hong Kong and Macao, who may have up to five days off!
For those observing the Qingming (Tomb Sweeping) traditions, this weekend is a meaningful moment to pause, honour loved ones who have passed, and reconnect with family in sincerity and peace. May this season bring you comfort and togetherness.
If, on the other hand, you're planning a short getaway, do take advantage of new travel facilitation measures, such as Malaysia’s upgraded immigration system and Singapore’s latest facial recognition enhancements at land checkpoints.
While the excitement of travelling is hard to resist, a number of travel considerations remain important and call for our vigilance.
Travel alerts to keep in mind:
- AirJapan has ceased all flight operations, leaving travellers with one fewer flight option.
- Geopolitical risks continue – a Black Outbound Travel Alert remains in effect for Iran, Israel, Lebanon, and Syria.
- Major Hong Kong airlines have announced further fuel surcharge increases.
- Travellers heading to Thailand for the Songkran festival (13–15 April) should keep a close eye on flight updates as Middle East conflict continues to unfold.
Transport reminders:
- All flight passengers departing from Hong Kong International Airport are now limited to carrying two power banks.
- Travellers moving between Singapore and Malaysia should prepare for potentially heavy congestion at land checkpoints over the Qing Ming and Good Friday long weekend.
Weather outlook:
- Hong Kong and Guangdong may see occasional showers and a few squally thunderstorms on Saturday, with periods of heavy rain and generally unsettled conditions.
- Malaysia, currently in a monsoon transition phase, may face variable winds, short heavy rain bursts, and stronger flash flood risks.
- In Thailand, temperatures in several regions reach 40-41°C, so hydration and heat precautions are essential.
No matter how you choose to spend this holiday, we hope it becomes a precious break from the rush of daily life – a chance to rest, reconnect, and enjoy time with the people and activities you love.
Wishing everyone a happy, safe, and healthy holiday!
Best wishes,
The Human Resources Online team
