HR practitioner appointments

Siew Lee Tee joins Tan Chong GroupEffective June 2019, Tee joined the automotive company in the role of Deputy General Manager, Group Human Resources, based in Malaysia, moving away from her previous role at Sunway Malls. In her capacity as Director of Human Resources - Malls and Theme Parks, she acted as a centre of expertise at Sunway Malls, providing consultation to the organisation and ensuring proper frameworks and execution of talent, culture, and HR services initiatives. Prior to that, Tee held various senior HR roles at Sunway Theme Parks, Levi Strauss & Co., and ACE Group.

Globalfoundries welcomes Andrew Sam to its talent acquisition teamBased in Singapore, Sam moved to the role effective March 2019 to lead all talent acquisition activity in Asia and global executive recruiting for the semiconductors firm. Before this, he was the Head of Talent Acquisition, Asia/Global for Applied Materials where he led all talent acquisition activity primarily in Southeast Asia, Taiwan, and China.

Speaking to Human Resources on his top priorities for the first year, he said: “My top priorities will be focusing on the recruitment needs in Asia as well as to strengthen our employer brand.”

Baker Hughes, a GE company, promotes Christopher Brock In May 2019, Brock was promoted from Senior Talent Acquisition Specialist - Asia Pacific, to Talent Acquisition Team Lead - Southeast Asia at the international industrial service company. Based in Malaysia, Brock comes with over nine years of experience managing the full process of technical and functional recruitment projects with a focus on senior and C-level requisitions. He currently specialises in recruiting the best talent for Baker Hughes’ turbo-machinery and process solutions (TPS) business.

RB welcomes a new Regional HR Director for South AsiaThe British multinational consumer goods company has appointed Smriti Handa to the India-based role of Regional HR Director South Asia, effective June 2019. This saw her move away from her previous role at Philips where she was Head HR - Philips Healthcare & Emerging Business, Diversity Lead. Handa comes with more than 14 years of corporate HR experience, having previously held various HR roles at airtel. She strongly believes that a sound HR leader must ensure HR plans are integrated with business strategy.

Hema Balakrishnan relocates from Malaysia to Singapore under Siemens MobilityPreviously the Regional HR Business Partner for the organisation’s Malaysia operations, Balakrishnan has moved to the Singapore office in the same role effective April 2019. Prior to that, she has held various HR roles with VADS and Far East Oil Terminal Two. Best known for her leadership, talent acquisition, and talent management skills, Balakrishnan holds a Bachelor’s degree, BSc in human development from Universiti Putra Malaysia.

Google adds Tracy Goh to its Technology Staffing teamIn June 2019, Goh relocated back to Singapore with Google where she is part of the technology staffing team which recruits engineering managers across Asia Pacific including Singapore, China, Taiwan, India, Japan and Australia. She was previously based in Hong Kong as a Director with ChapmanCG. Prior to that, Goh worked for national education firm, The Learning Lab, Singapore,  where she was responsible for business development, with a strong focus on both regional and global hiring.

Speaking to Human Resources about her priorities for the next one year, Goh said: “My focus will be on mapping the APAC talent landscape exclusively for engineering manager roles as well as to drive long-term engagement and diversity strategies across the region.”


HR solutions providers appointments

Abel Saw moves from DKSH to MercerSaw joined the management consulting firm in June 2019, serving as their Career Business Leader, based in Malaysia. Prior to that, he was the Director, Group Compensation & Benefits and Mobility at DKSH where he heads the compensation & benefits and mobility function for locals and non-locals across all business units in global presence. Saw comes with in-depth regional experience in consulting, corporate and operations, having worked in various corporate HR and HR consultancy roles throughout his career. He is also particularly passionate about new tech, machine learning, and analytics.

Speaking to Human Resources on his new role, Saw said: "In my new role, I oversee the talent and rewards business in Mercer Malaysia. My top priorities for this first year are to solidify our position in the market by keeping our core business strong; being agile and venturing into white spots; expanding our strong footprint in the country; and all in all, listening to our clients to focus on resolving their pain points.

"We’re determined to ensure our clients in Malaysia are future fit and at the forefront of the future of work digitalisation. We’ll do this by focusing on the areas of: aligning work to future value, building brand resonance, curating the work experience, and delivering talent-led change (2019 Global Talent Trends). We look forward to working closely with our clients in Malaysia!"

Bajaj Allianz General Insurance promotes Saptarshi BhattacharyaEffective May 2019, the insurance firm promoted Bhattacharya from Head Employee Relations, HR Analytics & HRBP (Retail Sales), to Head HR Shared Services, based in India. A career HR professional, he joined Bajaj Allianz General Insurance as a management trainee HR in 2007 and has moved up the ranks, holding various roles at the insurance firm including Deputy Manager HR Analytics & Talent Acquisition, and Head HRBP & HR Analytics.

Fortis Healthcare appoints Sanjay Sinha as Chief of Human Resources Officer Effective 17 June 2019, in his capacity as CHRO, Sinha will lead the HR function at a group level. He will be based out of the Corporate Office of Fortis in Gurugram, Haryana.  Prior to joining Fortis, Sinha was associated with the Hinduja group companies HGS and HTL, Nortel Networks, Polaris, Siemens and NTPC. He has an extensive global experience with reputed MNCs in Asia Pacific & Greater China, US, Canada, Latin America, Middle East, and Europe. He has held Global roles and is a well-respected senior leader in the industry who has been conferred with many coveted industry awards.
