The arrangement is one of the outcomes from Chief Executive John Lee’s current trip to Central Asia.
The HKSAR Government and the Government of Uzbekistan have exchanged diplomatic notes to begin discussions on the implementation details of a mutual visa-free arrangement.
Once implemented, the visa-free stay for HKSAR passport holders visiting Uzbekistan will be extended from the current 10 days to 30 days. In return, holders of diplomatic and service passports from Uzbekistan who can currently enter Hong Kong visa-free for 14 days, as well as ordinary passport holders who are currently required to obtain a visa, will be granted visa-free access to Hong Kong for up to 30 days.
The agreement is one of the outcomes from Chief Executive John Lee’s current visit to Central Asia.
Prior to Uzbekistan, Lee led a business delegation comprising representatives from Hong Kong and Mainland enterprises to Kazakhstan. The visit resulted in the signing of a total of 43 memoranda of understanding (MoUs) and agreements, covering areas including aviation, finance and trade, I&T, the digital economy, and green development.
During the Kazakhstan visit, Cathay Pacific’s Chief Customer and Commercial Officer Lavinia Lau announced the airline’s plans to launch direct flights between Hong Kong and Almaty in the first quarter of 2027. The new route will mark Cathay’s first destination in Central Asia and the only direct air link between Hong Kong and Kazakhstan, with services expected to operate three times a week.
