The next big thing for HR? It's all about people, states Chutchapol Youngwiriyakul, VP – HR and General Administration, Thaicom.
Unlocking your talent's potential goes both ways, asserts HR leader Chutchapol Youngwiriyakul.
Chutchapol brings more than 17 years of strategic HR and operational leadership to Thaicom Public Company, which have well equipped him for his current role as Vice President – Human Resources and General Administration. His expertise lies in propelling organisational development, fostering strong business partnerships, and cultivating top talent.
A sought-after thought leader, Chutchapol is a frequent speaker and panellist at prominent HR conferences and forums. He also aims to inspire future generations by serving as a guest lecturer at prestigious universities such as Chulalongkorn and Thammasat University, and mentoring young talents.
Ahead of his session at the inaugural Transform Talent Thailand 2024, in this series dedicated to featuring top speakers from our events, the leader tells Mary Ann Bundukin about his early learnings in HR, why he believes people are the next big thing for the function, and more.
Q Thinking back to your first day in HR, what is the most important learning that sticks with you until today?
My first day in HR taught me a surprising lesson: it's not all about having the answers! The most important thing I learned is to be a good listener and show people you really care. Everyone in the company has something to teach you, but they'll only open up if they feel you're on their side.
So, drop the know-it-all act and focus on building genuine connections – that's the real key to success in HR!
Q What steps do you believe are necessary to transform today's talent into the talent that the business needs?
The key to unlocking potential lies in a two-way street! Employees crave purpose, a sense of 'why' their work matters. Businesses need a skilled workforce to thrive. The magic happens when employees understand the company's vision and become invested. Then, it's all about empowering them with the resources and flexibility to develop the skills they need to shine. It's a win-win for everyone!
Q Could you share emerging trends that you believe will have the most significant impact on HR in the next few years?
The next big thing for HR? It's all about people! We've got two things going on: fewer young folks entering the workforce, and many experienced workers staying on the job longer. This means HR needs to become super-talented at keeping current employees happy and learning new things. It's not just about free snacks anymore – we're talking about making sure everyone feels valued and has the skills they need to succeed in the future of work. It's an exciting time to be in HR!
Q What are you most looking forward to in your session at #TransformTalentTH?
I'm not just excited to hear new ideas from the speakers, I'm also really looking forward to meeting new people! It'll be a great chance to chat with everyone, from the leaders to the other participants. This event isn't just about listening to talks, it's about making new friends and who knows, maybe even coming up with some cool ideas together!
