Development of Banyuwangi Vocational and Productivity Training Centre underway in Java to improve manpower competencies

The facility will focus on vocational training for tourism and welding engineering fields, in collaboration with the Austrian government.

Indonesia’s Ministry of Manpower, in collaboration with the Austrian Government, is developing the Banyuwangi Vocational and Productivity Training Center (also known as ‘BPVP Banyuwangi’) for the upskilling and training of workers.

Vocational areas such as tourism and welding engineering are being focused on, with four key components, namely:

  • Building construction,
  • Procurement of training equipment,
  • Development of training programmes and modules, and
  • Training of instructors and management.

This collaboration between Indonesia’s Ministry of Manpower and the Austrian government was celebrated with the laying of the first stone for the development of BPVP Banyuwangi. A joint agreement was signed between BPVP Banyuwangi and PT Industri Kereta Api (INKA) on improving human resource capabilities through vocational training.

Given the collaboration with the Austrian government, the establishment of BPVP aims to heighten standards in tourism and technical welding to European standards.

The Director General of Vocational Training and Productivity Development at the Ministry of Manpower, Budi Hartawan expressed his wishes: "We hope BPVP Banyuwangi will become a centre of excellence for the development of vocational tourism and welding techniques, so that it can make an important contribution to the community around BPVP Banyuwangi in particular and Indonesian society in general."
