Siam GS Battery has built an HR strategy that nurtures talent, promotes wellbeing, and strengthens community engagement, with the goal to prove that prioritising people and purpose leads to sustainable success.
Siam GS Battery believes that its people are its biggest asset. Guided by a mission to develop talent, promoting continuous learning, as well as foster a safe and inclusive workplace, the company has implemented initiatives that encourage employees to grow their skills, share knowledge, and express their talents. From sports and music to volunteer activities, the organisation has created a platform for employees to contribute meaningfully both inside and outside of work.
The HR team recognised early on that engagement must extend across all departments and age groups. While time constraints initially posed a challenge, collaborative planning and strong leadership support enabled the team to allocate resources effectively. This approach ensured that initiatives could be inclusive, accessible, and aligned with the organisation’s broader mission of personal and professional development.
These initiatives have already shown tangible benefits. Employee engagement, morale, and productivity have all improved, while clubs and volunteer programmes have strengthened teamwork and community connections.
"By prioritising both professional and personal growth, organisations can create sustainable workplaces where employees are motivated, innovative, and aligned with corporate values," Chainarong Chompooporn, Project Manager says.
At the HR Excellence Awards 2025, Thailand Siam GS Battery was recognised with the bronze award for 'Excellence in Employee Volunteerism'. In this interview, Chainarong shares the importance to balance people’s development with purpose-driven initiatives.
Q Tell us about your inspiring HR initiative – what sparked the idea, and how did you know it was the right path to take?
Our HR initiative began with the recognition that our employees are our greatest asset. We aimed to create an environment where everyone could grow their skills, share knowledge, and express their talents. The idea was sparked by observing diverse interests and capabilities within our workforce, from sports to music. We knew it was the right path because it aligned with our corporate mission of developing personnel, promoting continuous learning, and creating a safe and inclusive workplace.
The success of early activities, such as internal clubs and training programmes, reinforced that fostering employee engagement and diversity drives both personal and organisational growth.
Q Every journey has its ups and downs – can you share a challenge your team faced and how you worked through it together?
One challenge we faced was engaging employees from different departments and age groups in our diversity and development efforts. Initially, time constraints may have impacted our activities somewhat, but this was not a hindrance as everyone shared the same goals and passion for volunteering activities.
Therefore, we consulted with our team and allocated appropriate time. Furthermore, we received support from management, which contributed to our successful activities.
Q What impact has this initiative had on your organisation so far, and what do you hope it inspires in the wider HR community?
Our initiatives have enhanced employee engagement, productivity, and morale.
Clubs and volunteer programmes have allowed employees to showcase talents, improve teamwork, and contribute positively to the community. Health, sports, and educational programmes have fostered a balanced work-life environment and strengthened social responsibility.
We hope this inspires the wider HR community to view employee development holistically, combining skills growth with wellbeing, diversity, and community involvement.
By prioritising both professional and personal growth, organisations can create sustainable workplaces where employees are motivated, innovative, and aligned with corporate values.
Q Looking back, is there a moment, person, or value that kept you and your team motivated throughout the journey?
The core value that sustained our journey was collaboration with respect for diversity. Seeing employees from different backgrounds come together to participate in clubs, training sessions, and volunteer activities was incredibly motivating. Moments such as a team winning a sports event, or children in local schools benefiting from our programmes, reminded us of the positive impact of our work. Leadership support, especially from HR leaders committed to people development and social responsibility, also played a critical role. These moments reinforced our belief that focusing on employee growth and community engagement leads to meaningful, long-lasting results.
Q If you could offer one golden nugget of wisdom to HR professionals aiming for excellence, what would it be?
The most important advice is to balance people’s development with purpose-driven initiatives. HR excellence is not just about policies or procedures, it’s about creating opportunities where employees can learn, share, and thrive while contributing to the community and organisation. Encourage diversity, listen to your employees, and design programmes that align with both personal growth and corporate mission.
When employees feel valued and empowered, their engagement and innovation naturally follow, leading to sustainable success for both individuals and the organisation.
