Winners and photos: HR Excellence Awards 2016, Singapore

Last night's HR Excellence Awards 2016 hosted at the Shangri-La Hotel saw Dell crowned as the Employer of the Year for excellence in people strategies in a room full of distinguished HR professionals.

The awards which drew more than 500 attendees, bestowed the Public Sector Employer of the Year to the National Environment Agency, which made a mark across multiple categories.

Organised by Human Resources, the HR Excellence Awards - held for the fourth consecutive year - are the region’s premier awards to celebrate contributions to the HR profession, through notable individuals, teams and companies, held in Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia.

Dell excelled in a number of categories, winning silver for Excellence in Social Media (where the gold was awarded to ANZ Banking Group, and bronze to Manulife); bronze for Excellence in CSR Strategy (where gold and silver went to AccorHotels Asia Pacific and ANZ Banking Group respectively); and silver for Excellence in Diversity & Inclusion (where National Environment Agency and PepsiCo India Region took home the gold and bronze respectively).

Apart from being presented the top honours for diversity and inclusion, the National Environmental Agency also bagged the gold for Excellence in HR Strategic Planning (where silver was accorded to Teledirect, and bronze to Heraeus Asia Pacific); and the silver for Excellence in Employee Engagement (where the gold was secured by Singtel and bronze by Linxens Singapore).

Within the public sector, strong contenders included the National Kidney Foundation which won gold for Excellence in Employee Healthcare (where silver was awarded to DBS Bank and bronze to Jurong Health Services); and tied for silver with SMRT in the category Excellence in Compensation & Benefits Strategy (where gold was bestowed on Singtel and bronze to Avnet Asia).

Another favourite among the public sector was the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority which claimed gold in both Excellence in Mature Workforce Programmes (where silver went to AccorHotels Asia Pacific); and Excellence in Employee Work-Life Balance (where silver was awarded to ANZ Banking Group and bronze was tied between HSL Constructor and South32 Marketing). While Changi Airport Group was recognised for its best practices in employer branding, taking home a tied silver award with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Singapore for Excellence in Employer Branding in a (where Deloitte Singapore landed the gold, and Ericsson the bronze).

In addition to being crowned the gold for employer branding, Deloitte Singapore excelled in its workforce mobility strategies, walking away with the silver award in Excellence in Workforce Mobility (where gold and bronze went to Gemalto and Telstra Singapore respectively). The professional services firm was also presented with the silver award for Excellence in Workplace Wellbeing (where gold was bagged by Eastern Health Alliance and bronze was tied between AIA FINANCIAL and Schneider Electric).

Among the individual recognition, Dell's Dicky Eka Anggakara outperformed other fresh-faced HR professionals to attain the title of Young HR Talent of the Year.

Joining him on the winning stage was Jairo Fernandez of SAP who is the proud winner of the title HR Professional of the Year.

Other than obtaining the most coveted individual award through Fernandez, SAP captivated the judges in its use of HR tech to secure the gold award in Excellence in Innovative use of HR Technology (where Reliance Industries and Schneider Electric India took silver and Singtel went away with bronze).

The multinational software corporation also gained recognition in the area of staff development, securing the silver in Excellence in Employee Development ( where gold went to ANZ Banking Group and bronze was shared by Evonik (SEA) and Kadence International).

Excellence in Leadership Development was a hotly contested category, with a gold win achieved by Singtel, followed by a tied silver win by BASF South East Asia and BNP Paribas and Amcor Flexibles Asia Pacific snapping up the bronze. Another notable category was Excellence in Graduate Recruitment & Development, where Singtel clinched the gold, followed by Maybank with the silver and a tied bronze between CrimsonLogic and Shangri-La Hotel Singapore.

Some of the other companies that made notable impact on the jury included Rohde & Schwarz Regional Headquarters Singapore (silver for Excellence in Cross-Border HR Programme), TATA Consultancy Services Asia Pacific (bronze for Excellence in Recruitment), DHL Customer Solutions & Innovation (bronze for Excellence in Talent Management), ANZ Banking Group - Retail & Wealth Singapore (silver for Excellence in Learning & Development), and Nanyang Technological University (bronze for Excellence in Learning & Development).
