Faces of HR: Pauline Loo on leveraging AI to shift HR from 'reactive' to 'predictive'

These tools enable HR to prioritise meaningful employee conversations, fostering a more responsive, inclusive, and human experience — enabled by technology but delivered by people, says Nippon Sanso Holdings’ SVP and Regional Hub Head of HR.

For Pauline Loo (pictured above), SVP & Regional Hub Head of HR, Nippon Sanso Holdings Corporation, AI is transforming how HR supports people —shifting the function from reactive problem-solving to predictive action. By anticipating turnover risks, spotting skill gaps early, and personalising development pathways, her team can intervene before challenges arise.

With over 20 years of expertise in HR consulting, talent management, and leadership development across multinational corporations and Singapore government agencies, Loo oversees HR operations for Southeast Asia and India, driving regional strategy and aligning talent development with business goals. Her experience spans diverse sectors, including government, consulting, technology, real estate, and industrial manufacturing.

"When used responsibly, these tools free HR teams from manual, repetitive tasks and give them back time to focus on meaningful conversations with employees," she shares with Mary Ann Bundukin ahead of her session at HRO’s #InteracTechAsia2026.

The result, she adds, is a "more responsive, inclusive, and human employee experience enabled by technology, but delivered through people."

Building on this approach, Loo shares her insights on how organisations can harness AI to transform HR to build more proactive, human-centered, and strategically aligned employee experiences.

As technology becomes more embedded in our daily lives, what’s one way you have seen AI or digital tools meaningfully improve people outcomes?

One of the most meaningful improvements I have seen is how AI helps shift HR from reactive to predictive. Instead of waiting for issues to surface, we can now anticipate turnover risks, identify skill gaps early, and personalise development pathways.

When used responsibly, these tools free HR teams from manual, repetitive tasks and give them back time to focus on meaningful conversations with employees. The result is a more responsive, inclusive, and human employee experience enabled by technology, but delivered through people.

Q Leading through rapid transformation isn’t easy. What mindset shift has helped you lead teams more effectively through change?

The biggest shift for me was embracing the idea that clarity matters more than certainty. In fast moving environments, leaders cannot promise that we know every answer but we can promise transparency, alignment, and purpose.

I learned to communicate early, communicate often, and bring people along the journey even before all the details are final. When teams understand the "why", they navigate the "how" with far more trust and resilience.

We often talk about becoming more tech-savvy while staying human-centric. What's one way you personally try and maintain that balance?

I anchor every technology decision to a simple question: "Does this make the employee experience better, simpler, or more empowering?"

If the answer is no, then the tool is not serving its purpose. I also make it a point to stay connected to real employee stories through focus groups, listening sessions, and informal conversations.

"Technology should augment empathy, not replace it. Maintaining that human pulse ensures that digital transformation remains grounded in what truly matters."

Q As a speaker at InteracTech Asia 2026, what is the #1 call-to-action you hope for attendees to take away from your session?

My call to action is this: HR must lead transformation, not wait to be invited into it.

We have the unique vantage point to connect people, culture, and strategy and to shape how organisations grow. Whether through skills development, culture redesign, or responsible adoption of technology, HR has the power to influence meaningful and sustainable change.

I hope attendees will leave inspired to step forward, challenge old assumptions, and design workplaces where both people and business can truly thrive.
