Special Aidilfitri 2026 financial assistance to be paid to eligible civil servants, retirees on 13 March

Special Aidilfitri 2026 financial assistance to be paid to eligible civil servants, retirees on 13 March

The one-off payment aims to ease festive expenses for public sector workers, pensioners, and veterans ahead of Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Come 13 March 2026, eligible civil servants and retirees in Malaysia will receive the special financial assistance (Bantuan Khas Kewangan, BKK) for 2026, to support preparations preparing for the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.

The Prime Minister previously announced that eligible civil servants will receive RM500, while government retirees and veterans will receive RM250. The payment is intended as targeted support to help cover additional costs typically associated with the festive period.

Who will receive RM500

The RM500 assistance will be paid to civil service officers in Grade 15 and below, or equivalent. This includes those appointed on permanent, temporary, or contract terms, such as Contract of Service (COS) staff and daily part-time employees.

Eligibility also covers officers on full-pay leave, half-pay leave, and unpaid leave. Officers who are seconded to other agencies, including those with separate remuneration systems, will also qualify. In such cases, the borrowing agency will be responsible for making the payment.

In addition, several other groups are included:

  • MySTEP personnel who are still in service
  • Interim teachers
  • Drivers appointed by senior officers who are qualified to a driver but are not provided one
  • Drivers appointed by administrative members, judges, and judicial commissioners

RM250 for retirees, pensioners, and veterans

The assistance will also be extended to government retirees, pensioned veterans, and non-pensioned veterans, who will receive RM250.

Eligible recipients include pension-receiving retirees, those who retired voluntarily but have yet to receive their pension, and retirees under the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) scheme who left public service upon reaching the compulsory retirement age of 55-60 years old or for health reasons.

Payments to retirees will be administered by the Civil Service Department (JPA), while payments to veterans will be handled by the Veterans Affairs Department (JHEV).

Special cases: Reappointed retirees and deceased officers

Retirees or veterans who have been reappointed to public service positions on a permanent, temporary, or COS basis and are still serving will receive RM500 in total. In such cases, RM250 will be paid by the relevant central agency, with the remaining RM250 paid by the department where the individual is currently serving.

Officers who pass away on the date of payment will also be eligible for the RM500 payment, which will be disbursed to their next of kin.

Payment date and tax exemption

The BKK 2026 will be paid on 13 March 2026. The responsibility for payment rests with the department where the officer is serving on that date.

Importantly, the assistance will be exempt from income tax under the provisions of the Income Tax Act 1967.

Subject to approval by the respective authorities, the above-mentioned provisions are expected to be extended to state public services, statutory authorities, and local authorities.
