Multiple agencies are collaborating to help employers in Singapore’s hotel industry better engage with jobseekers to address mismatches and missed matches in the employment landscape.
In view of this, the Adapt & Grow SkillsFuture Career Advisors Programme has been launched for the hotel industry at the recent Hotel Day, co-organised by Workforce Singapore (WSG) and NTUC’s Employment and Employability Institute (e2i).
The programme – a collaboration between WSG and Singapore Hotel Association (SHA), enables hotel veterans to share their work experience and guide jobseekers on the different roles and progression pathways within the industry.
Coupled with the skills framework for hotels and accommodation services, jobseekers get guidance and information on the skillsets required, training to enter the industry, and where the jobs are.
Tan Choon Shian, chief executive of WSG, said: “We will also provide support to help employers redesign jobs and transform their work processes to bring on higher value jobs for the industry, benefiting both jobseekers and employers.”
The pioneer batch of SkillsFuture Career Advisors, comprises 21 industry veterans including HR directors and hotel general managers:

This pioneer batch has volunteered their time to provide jobseekers with advice on job prospects and work expectations in the hotel industry.
As part of the second edition of Hotel Day, 25 employers were offering 340 vacancies, including AMOY Hotel, Far East Plaza Residences, Holiday Inn Express Orchard, Hotel Indigo Singapore Katong, Intercontinental Singapore, Pan Pacific Singapore, amongst others.
Hotel employers can also tap on a suite of grants to drive productivity in their work processes, such as WSG’s WorkPro Job Redesign Grant, STB’s Business improvement Grant and e2i’s Inclusive Growth Programme.
Gilbert Tan, chief executive officer of e2i, commented: “Through e2i’s close partnerships with the government, trade associations and employers, we are able to grow our network of industry experts and expertise to better develop and support Singapore’s pool of hospitality professionals.”
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister for Manpower and Foreign Affair, Josephine Teo was the guest-of-honour at Hotel Day 2017.
