Malaysia may extend the use of autogates for arrivals at KLIA from 10 countries

While the countries have yet to be specified, they are expected to be the ones Malaysia categorises as 'low-risk'.

Malaysia's Minister of Home Affairs Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has announced several measures to mitigate the long queues for foreign arrivals at Kuala Lumpur International Airport. 

Amongst these, Malaysia is looking into possibly expanding the use of autogates to visitors from 10 low-risk countries (yet to be specified). Further, there will be two quick response teams (QRT) in operation from 1 February 2023, to assist officers at immigration counters during peak hours.

According to Minister Saifuddin, the source of such long queues may be attributed to the simultaneous arrivals of around 20 to 26 flights at a time, with intervals of five to 10 minutes during peak hours.

Separately, Minister Saifuddin has shared that starting 28 January (Saturday), a total of 20 passport offices along with urban transformation centres will operate daily for passport renewals and applications, part of efforts to ease congestion at immigration counters. Read the full update here
