Has your HR function proven its worth in the boardroom?

A relatively new concept in the HR space, HR business partnering has been fairly common in Asia for a number of years, yet many still do not have a clear idea of everything it entails.

While some HR professionals lament the monotonous administrative aspect of the HR business partner role (despite having one of the most glamorous job titles in the HR world), the reality is that true HR business partnering has yet to gain traction in many organisations across Asia.

Contrary to its objectives as a strategic and credible partner to top management and business stakeholders, recent research has shown that less than 20% of global HR business partners (HRBPs) are viewed as “strategically effective” by line leaders.

What’s more, only 30% of global HR business leaders believe that HR has a reputation for sound business decisions.

To help bring the HRPB role in Asia forward to the position it enjoys in more developed markets, the HR Academy is conducting an intensive, 2-day training workshop on HR business partnering.

Titled “Strategic HR Business Partnering”, the workshop will be led by highly respected award-winning HR expert from the UK with close to 30 years’ experience, Jon Ingham.

The course will be held in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong and will equip senior HR professionals with everything they need to transform HR into a trusted business partner in the truest sense of the word.

“After speaking with many senior HR practitioners including those from MNCs, we realised that despite being hired to do the HRBP job, many HR staff were grappling with the actual application of the business partnering process,” said Kenneth Neo, regional producer at Human Resources magazine.

“Of those we spoke to, many still did not possess the knowledge and tools necessary to perform at their best in building trust and proving HR’s mettle to top management.”

Neo added that the workshop is essential for companies that either do not have an existing HRBP team or think that their current HR business partnering system is due for a significant improvement.

“The hard truth is that the HR function has long been seen as the poor relation to many other departments in a company, especially the revenue-generating ones.

The usefulness of HR practices, policies and initiatives have not been quantified and well-communicated to the rest of the organisation, especially top management,” said Aditi Sharma Kalra, regional editor of Human Resources magazine.

“Through the HRBP practice, HR departments now have a chance to show that like other departments, they are similarly capable of contributing to the company’s bottom line.”

The HR Academy runs courses in an interactive workshop format, blending real-life case studies and practical examples with the expert knowledge and experience of external trainers to ensure maximum value is delivered.

Delegates undergo intense learning and interaction with their trainer and fellow course participants, and will take away global best practices, fresh ideas and customised solutions for implementation back in their organisations. New concepts such as social capital, HR metrics, social capital, HR metrics, as well as relationship development will also be introduced at this course.

As with all HR Academy workshops, this session will be capped at 20 attendees.
