A joint operation in Kuala Lipis has uncovered labour law violations at a manufacturing firm, with authorities taking action on unfair worker treatment, poor housing, and the hiring of foreign workers without valid work passes.
The Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA), through the Peninsular Malaysia Department of Labour (JTKSM), has received a complaint against a manufacturing company in Kuala Lipis, Pahang, over the termination of local workers while retaining foreign staff, paying termination benefits in instalments, and providing poor and unhygienic employee accommodation.
In response, an integrated operation was launched under the leadership of YBhg. Dato' Sri Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Mohamad, Deputy Minister of Human Resources, alongside YBrs. Mr. Kamal bin Pardi, JTKSM Director General.
A total of 49 officers were deployed from KESUMA, JTKSM, and operating members including the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO), the Employees Provident Fund (KWSP), and the Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM).
The operation found that the company had committed several offences under the labour law. Investigation papers are being prepared by JTKSM under the Labour Act 1955 [Act 265] and the Minimum Standards of Housing, Accommodation and Employees’ Facilities Act 1990 [Act 446].
In addition, JIM said it will be taking enforcement action over the employment of foreign workers without valid Temporary Work Visit Passes (PLKS), while the Social Security Organisation (or PERKESO) will address arrears in employer contributions.
Dato’ Abdul Rahman stressed that the Government will not compromise with any employer who breaches labour laws, adding that strict enforcement is necessary to ensure the welfare of workers remains protected.
