Hang Seng Bank turned its Hong Kong headquarters into an employee playground

The bank hosted over 1,000 employees and their families for a two-day event to celebrate the dedication and hard work of its colleagues as well as the invaluable support of their families.

Hang Seng Bank (HASE) recently hosted a two-day employee engagement event, transforming its newly renovated Hong Kong headquarters in Central into a vibrant playground for nearly 1,200 employees and their families from both Hong Kong and Mainland China.

Dubbed ‘HASE Family Day’, the event marked the first large-scale employee engagement initiative since the headquarters’ renovation on top of its regular approaches, aiming to celebrate not only the dedication and hard work of its colleagues, but also the invaluable support of their families.

The event featured performances by local singers Gordon Flanders and Kiri T, alongside a wide array of interactive activities tailored for all ages spread across multiple floors of the headquarters, including:

  • themed game booths,
  • simulated workplace experiences to help employees and their families to learn about various roles and functions within the bank,
  • anti-fraud sharing sessions and financial literacy workshops,
  • a sustainability tour to showcase the eco-friendly design of the headquarters,
  • dedicated photo spots for capturing memorable moments.

Gloria Ho, Head of People, Hang Seng Bank, tells HRO’s Tracy Chan exclusively that the event was thoughtfully designed to offer a fun and meaningful experience that strengthens connections amongst colleagues and their families.

“These activities provided families with insights into the impactful work our employees do, deepening their pride in being part of the HASE family,” Ho says.

And feedback from both employees and their families has been overwhelmingly positive, she adds.

Ho elaborates that HASE Family Day is a vivid reflection of the bank’s people-centric values as an employer as well as a brand, underscoring its commitment to fostering a supportive, inclusive, and caring culture.

“Succeeding together would not be possible without the support and understanding of families of our colleagues,” she affirms.

“By creating an environment where employees and their families could come together for quality time, the event brought a refreshing and light-hearted touch to the workplace, reinforcing our dedication to elevating employee wellbeing.”

Beyond hosting engagement events, HASE’s commitment to employee wellbeing and promoting a caring corporate culture is embedded in its policies and support systems.

Ho highlights the bank’s Employee Resource Group for Caregivers, which provides a safe and supportive space for sharing personal experiences and accessing resources to manage challenges. Additionally, its Employee Assistance Programme offers 24/7 confidential personal counselling and support services.

To further cater for the differing needs of its colleagues, alongside comprehensive leave benefits, the bank provides flexible working options and offers four hours of personal or caregiving time-off each month, enabling employees to balance work and personal life.

Looking ahead, Ho assures that HASE will remain focused on future-proofing its workforce.

“We continue to invest in the growth and development of our employees through reskilling and upskilling, with a focus on sustainability, data literacy, AI, and the future of banking, ensuring we build a workforce that’s future-ready,” she asserts.
