Road users entering Jalan Genting Highlands will be required to pay a private road charge, as operator Lingkaran Cekap rolls out a two-phase implementation plan. Certain groups, including emergency vehicles and eligible public servants, will be exempted under the new system.
Road charges for vehicles entering Jalan Genting Highlands will take effect from 28 May 2026 (Thursday), according to an announcement by Lingkaran Cekap Sdn Bhd (LCSB), the authorised road operator for the route.
Under the first phase, all permitted road users, except those under exempted categories, will be required to pay upon entering Jalan Genting Highlands.
Collections will be carried out at two entry points:
- Genting Highlands Entry at Genting Sempah
- Gohtong Jaya Entry at Gohtong Jaya roundabout
The charges will vary depending on vehicle class. Cars and vans will be charged RM5 per entry, while medium-sized lorries and heavy lorries will pay RM15 and RM25 respectively. Taxi fares will be charged RM3.30, while buses will also be charged RM5.
LCSB added that vehicles under Classes 2, 3, 4 and 5, must enter through designated "lorong khas" lanes or use the Licence Plate Recognition (LPR) system.
Which vehicles are exempted?
The operator said certain categories of vehicles will be exempted from the road charge system, based on "essential operational needs and public service considerations".
Emergency vehicles and motorcycles will be exempted automatically and do not require registration.
Meanwhile, selected public servants working at identified government institutions in Genting Highlands may also qualify for exemptions, although registration is required and entry must be made through the LPR or lorong khas lanes.
The list includes:
- SK Sri Layang
- SMK Sri Layang
- Institut Aminuddin Baki
- Balai Polis Genting Highlands
- Balai Polis Gohtong Jaya
- Balai Bomba dan Penyelamat Genting Highlands
- Klinik Desa Sri Layang
- Pejabat Daerah Kecil Genting Highlands
- Pejabat Daerah dan Tanah Bentong
- Pejabat Cawangan Majlis Perbandaran Bentong (Cawangan Genting Highlands)
- Pejabat Setiausaha Kerajaan (SUK) Negeri Pahang (Cawangan Genting Highlands)
Preferential rates and season passes for residents from 28 June
A second phase of the implementation will begin on 28 June 2026, focusing on permanent residents in Genting Highlands.
Under this phase, LCSB said it will register up to two Class 1 vehicles for eligible permanent residents. Residents may choose between a preferential entry rate or a season pass scheme.
For those opting for the preferential rate, LCSB said registered residents will receive a 10% discount off the normal entry fee when using the LPR lanes or lorong khas. The operator also noted that registered vehicles will not incur charges before 28 June 2026.
In addition, a six-month season pass scheme will be introduced for registered permanent residents, allowing unlimited entries throughout the validity period via the dedicated lanes. Residents interested in the scheme will need to submit an application and complete payment procedures.
LCSB added that exemptions and preferential rates may be reviewed periodically to remain aligned with operational and policy changes.
