Jeffrey Quah, group human resources director, Paramount Corporation

How to win - Apart from presentations, sound bites and plans, Quah believes there must be a list of achievements that shows the organisation’s commitment and collective effort to nurture talent.

He adds that to excel means to go beyond the tried-and-true methods and braving risks, in spite of failure, while maintaining engagement with employees as HR needs to understand its people.

HR’s role - It is also crucial for HR to have strong emotional intelligence for conflict resolution to positively drive the organisation. He affirms, “If you don’t have a strong emotional intelligence, perhaps HR is not your true calling!”

Zarina Daud, general manager human resources, Protasco

How to win - Strong evidence of alignment and achievement of HR strategies with business objectives, goals and KPIs would be the first of four key takeaways Daud is on the lookout for.

Secondly, entries should showcase how robust and dynamic HR management policies, culture and work systems that support high productivity and high income.

Alongside strong and continuous application of HR system and technology, achievements in areas of talent management and leadership development are also essential judging pointers.

HR’s role - Daud reveals that “only when HR teams are able to see the bigger picture they will become one of the major growth engines for the organisation,” evidently pointing to teamwork as the means to HR succeeding.

Abdul Aziz, head of group human capital division, Ranhill Holdings

How to win - Aziz is scouting for HR teams that “have, can and will make impactful business contributions with data-driven analysis for operational efficiency, high performance culture, cost-benefit controls, organisational competency and overall employee experience.”

Entries must highlight how HR not only understand but also elevate business operations by contributing to the profitability and growth through the varied competencies of HR professionals.

HR’s role - Business acumen and the ability to influence sustainability and growth of the business is crucial. Since HR is no longer administrative and processing in nature, professionals must align skills with their role as a strategic business partner.
