THIS STORY HAS BEEN UPDATED WITH THE NAME OF THE THIRD VICTIM
Swimming has now been prohibited in Pantai Karechut in Penang National Park, following the deaths of three employees during a company team-building outing last weekend.
Five employees, from an advertising agency in Prai, were swept away by strong waves while swimming at the beach, following a team-building camp in the National Park.
Three people tragically drowned, while two survivors remain under care at the Penang Hospital. One of the deceased originally remained unaccounted for, but a thorough search team recovered the man's body earlier this week.
The police have named the two survivors as Nur Hayati Nasrul and Nurul Ain Nabilah Mokthar. Both are in a stable condition, The Malay Mail reported.
The bodies of the three drowned victims - P. Yogambigai and Ashwanpaljit Singh and Ku Muhammad Ilyas Ku Abdul Halim - have been recovered.
Park superintendent Saat Yaakob told The Star swimming has now been prohibited in the area, as a measure to ensure another tragic accident does not happen.
He said swimming was previously "allowed by not encouraged", and signage at the beach have remained to warn beach-goers of the dangers.
He was speaking to reporters at the park’s office yesterday after meeting Teluk Bahang assemblyman Datuk Shah Headan Ayoob Hussain Shah and the relevant authorities.
Saat said two rangers were on duty when the incident happened.
"We put up two red warning flags two years ago to warn visitors not to swim there," he said. " Now we'll put up more signanges all over the park."
