Up the ranks: Paul van Rotterdam steps up as HR Director at Pirata Group

He will lead the People team in shaping a seamless experience across the entire employee journey.

Paul van Rotterdam (pictured above) has stepped up to the role of Human Resources Director at Pirata Group, effective September 2025.

In his new role at the restaurant major, van Rotterdam will lead the People team and look after the complete team member journey – from hiring and onboarding, to training, engagement, and a seamless offboarding experience.

As HR Director, van Rotterdam’s expanded scope includes working closely with the senior operational leadership and the CEO, understanding all data, and creating strategic plans to improve the talent pipeline and team member experience.

“Having the senior team’s input, feedback and buy in, is great inspiration for our department/ restaurant leaders to continue the process and communication” he tells HRO’s Tracy Chan in an exclusive comment.

When asked about the top talent challenges in the hospitality industry, van Rotterdam emphasises the importance of innovation and staying ahead of the curve.

“HR and talent management are valuable assets to any company. Since the pandemic, driving company culture is trending,” he says.

“The hospitality industry turnover is notorious and the main challenge is to keep your company attractive to new talent and stay exciting for your current teams. We want to always be innovative and ahead of ‘the game’.”
