Upcoming long weekends from August to December 2025 in Malaysia

As 31 August 2025 (Sunday) marks Hari Merdeka, Malaysians will enjoy an additional day off on Monday, 1 September, making it a long weekend. Here is a look at the upcoming long weekends and state holidays to plan ahead.

A reminder for the next nationwide break

With Hari Merdeka/National Day falling on a Sunday this year, 1 September 2025 will be observed as an off in lieu public holiday in Malaysia. This means a three-day weekend from 30 August to 1 September, giving many a chance to spend time with loved ones.

The above aligns with Section 60D of the Employment Act, which states that if any of the 10 gazetted public holidays (designated for 2023) falls on a rest day, the immediate-following working day shall be a paid holiday in lieu.
