The evolving role of HR in Malaysia’s recruitment environment

In light of the recently shared impact of talent acquisition strategies according to four HR leaders alongside the upcoming Recruitment Asia 2017 conference, Human Resources’ reached out to three more HR practitioners to shed light on the landscape.

1: Karin Clarke, director global solutions, APAC, Kelly Outsourcing and Consulting Group

Clarke stresses that “the war for talent will remain extreme.” This will pressure HR professionals to sieve out the best amongst the current talent.

Additionally, she emphasises on the integration of inter-generational diversity as a strong indicator of the impact on the way we look at work. This is accompanied by the need for organisational agility to transform workforces to include the gig economy.

Key takeaway - "Start considering disruptive automation in work and jobs."

2: Jackie Chan, country head of human resources, Nokia

Chan streamlines the top challenges in Malaysia as the lack of an innovative recruitment process, as well as a structure that limits HR functions in many aspects.

This is further explained by the need for HR to incorporate “out-of-the-box sourcing strategy” to remain competitive and relevant for the talent pool today.

He concludes with the importance of finding the right talent fit for the organisation as a constant struggle most HR practitioners face.

Key takeaway - “How you go about designing an innovative employee/people lifecycle programme in your organisation is critical.”

3: Sherriza Nor Rashidi, employer branding and talent acquisition lead, PwC

"The talent battle is real,” echoes Rashidi as she explains the stiff competition for agile and resilient talent being the greatest impact. As employers will be 'battling' for the same talent, it is about what employers can offer. The HR role is “morphing into marketing” as employer branding is pivotal.

Key takeaway - “Onboarding goes beyond the one week of settling in and there is a need to carry a continuous employee engagement programme for current employees; such as career milestone programmes to mark the occasion of their promotion."

Recruitment Asia 2017 will feature the aforementioned three HR leaders presenting their case studies live on 31 Oct-1 Nov at Aloft Kuala Lumpur Sentral. Register right away and hear from General Electric, Unilever, T-Systems, and more.
