In the current compensation and benefits landscape, employers face many challenges in effectively communicating their company's benefit packages to their employees.
So, how can HR professionals overcome this obstacle and make the most out of what they have invested?
"There are too many times when what we say is either misunderstood or not comprehended resulting in energy and time being spent needlessly", says Nael Islam, executive director of human resources and organisational development at the Singapore Tourism Board (STB).
"Communication through words and actions is critical to making sure that everyone is singing from the same hymn-sheet."
To achieve an open, direct and clear two-way communication, Islam says STB uses numerous platforms to ensure information is shared effectively by all team members.
"At STB, the entire management team is committed to this and we use a number of platforms and channels that both share information and encourage our colleagues to get clarity around policies, processes and programmes.
"These include small informal group sessions with the chief and assistant chief executives, leadership conversations, newsletters and large town hall events."
Islam will speak more on this topic during a panel discussion at the upcoming Benefits Asia 2013, alongside other compensation and benefits experts from Huntsman and Freelance Total Rewards.
Benefits Asia 2013 will take place on 23-24 October at the Sheraton Towers in Singapore.
