Simpler, safer, smarter: CPF Board rolls out streamlined hotline & tighter authentication for online nominations

These measures are in addition to the CPF Board’s existing anti-scam measures, which includes the CPF Withdrawal Lock, as well as enhanced authentication and a 12-hour cooling period for increases to the Daily Withdrawal Limit for online withdrawals, and updates to registered bank account information or contact details.

Singapore’s CPF Board has consolidated all outbound calls into a single official number, 6227 1188, as part of nationwide efforts to combat government official impersonation scams. This move helps members easily verify the authenticity of CPF Board calls. The number is listed on the CPF Board’s website and whitelisted in the ScamShield app. This measure builds on the December 2024 initiative that streamlined outbound calls to two dedicated numbers (6227 1188 and 6202 3388) to enhance security.

Scammers often impersonate government officials, citing personal information like your name or NRIC number to appear credible. They may call claiming issues with your CPF or Singpass account, or accuse you of involvement in criminal activities such as money laundering. If this happens, do not share personal details or passwords.

CPF Board cautioned that its officers will never ask for your Singpass password, request sensitive information, or threaten arrest over the phone. If in doubt, the public is urged to hang up immediately and verify by calling CPF’s 24/7 ScamShield helpline at 1799. CPF staff will always use Singpass for secure identity verification.

The CPF Board said it continues to collaborate with banks and government agencies to monitor evolving scams and review safeguards that balance security with convenience. Public vigilance remains crucial in this fight.

CPF members aged 55 and above can enhance security by activating the CPF Withdrawal Lock, which disables online CPF withdrawals if there are no immediate withdrawal plans. Members receiving CPF payouts into personal bank accounts may also activate their bank’s Money Lock feature to safeguard savings. Keeping contact details updated ensures members receive timely transaction alerts.

If you suspect a CPF-related scam, immediately freeze your bank accounts, reset your Singpass password, activate the Withdrawal Lock, file a police report, and inform the CPF Board.

Enhanced authentication for online CPF nominations

Starting May 2025, CPF members making online nominations must complete enhanced authentication using biometrics as an added security layer. This complements existing measures such as the CPF Withdrawal Lock, enhanced authentication for withdrawals, a 12-hour cooling period for increased Daily Withdrawal Limits, and verification for updates to bank or contact details.
