NCPC Hong Kong 2025: Life Beyond School Founder Angie Lau to moderate panel on neurodevelopment

The conversation will address the challenges and opportunities of today's youth growing up online, and strategies to support cognitive development for young minds.

The upcoming National Counselling & Psychotherapy Conference (NCPC) in Hong Kong is excited to welcome Angie Lau, Founder of Life Beyond School (LBS), as the moderator for a relevant panel: Navigating Neurodevelopment in a Digital World.

In this panel, Lau will lead a conversation on how the evolving digital environment impacts cognitive and social development in children and young adults. The discussion will cover the challenges and opportunities of growing up online, strategies for fostering healthy peer relationships, mitigating online risks, as well as the use of both digital and real-world tools to support cognitive development and emotional wellbeing for young minds.

An award-winning journalist and former global anchor at Bloomberg Television, Lau is now a leading voice in education innovation. Through her enrichment ecosystem LBS, she empowers children aged 5–12 with the social-emotional and critical thinking skills essential for lifelong success.

Grounded in research and designed for both school and home environments, LBS collaborates with child psychologists, educators, and behavioural science experts to create practical, evidence-aligned tools. These resources help children build resilience, emotional fluency, empathy, and self-awareness.

Lau’s vision extends beyond just children. Recognising that human development is a community effort, the LBS ecosystem also supports parents, teachers, and professionals. The programme is now being explored in school districts and corporate settings alike.

“The Life Beyond School Resilience Cards are one of the most impactful resources I’ve come across in recent years. Thoughtfully designed, evidence-informed, and incredibly practical – they beautifully bridge the gap between connection and skill-building,” she says, citing the words of Edele Nolan, child and teen psychologist.

Whether used by school counsellors, private therapists, or parent coaches, Lau notes that the LBS challenge cards and curricula are designed to strengthen home-school-caregiver alignment. By fostering meaningful conversations, they create a shared language for emotional growth and build trust between adults and children – making them an effective supplement to therapeutic work.

NCPC is an annual event that brings together industry-leading experts to explore the evolving landscape of mental health and wellbeing.

The 2025 edition features a diverse agenda of keynote presentations, panel discussions, and interactive workshops on timely topics such as abusive relationships, bereavement, women's mental health, and trauma, while empowering attendees with the latest evidence-based tools and techniques to elevate psychoological and mental wellness.
