MCMC to collaborate with local and global institutions to develop Malaysia's digital infrastructure

The partnership will benefit working adults through a micro-credential development programme, the less fortunate through Google's certification programmes, and more.

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has signed a document of cooperation with local and global institutions, in joint efforts to drive the development of Malaysia's digital infrastructure.

According to Bernama's report, this will involve the development of digital talent in the country, and the local institutions include Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL), Malaysia Board of Technologists, and Malaysian Nuclear Agency.

Cited in the report, MCMC said the collaboration with UniKL will be established through a micro-credential development programme that will provide adults, especially working adults, with opportunities to "add value to their skills in order to remain relevant in their respective careers."

At the same time, the collaboration with the other two local institutions will focus developing technology-related certification programmes, especially in telecommunications and broadcasting, cybersecurity, computing, and radiofrequency electromagnetic fields.

The above aside, as further reported by Bernama, MCMC and Google have signed an agreement to provide scholarships through which the less fortunate will be able to undergo courses and obtain Google Career Certificates.

Upon attaining their certificate, these individuals will be given the opportunity to seek jobs within Google's consortium.

The above was announced during a ceremony for the Digital Society Research Grant (DRSG) Awards, which was officiated by MCMC's Chief Operating Officer, Dato' Mohd Ali Hanafiah Mohd Yunus on 30 August (Tuesday).
