Malaysia's labour force participation rate rises slightly in Jan 2019

Malaysia's labour force participation rate (LFPR) in January 2019 increased 0.1 percentage point to 68.6% as compared to December 2018 (68.5%), as published in the latest data by Department of Statistics, Malaysia (DOSM).

The LFPR has also increased 0.4 percentage points year-on-year (yoy), whereby January 2018 was 68.2%. As of January 2019, the number of labour force now stands at 15.51 million persons.

Of this total labour force, the number of employed persons has also increased 2.2% to 14.99 million persons (vs 14.67 million in January 2018). Meanwhile, the unemployment rate in January 2019 has remained at 3.3% since September 2018.
