Each eligible child may receive the allowance for the year of their birth and the following two years at most.
Macao’s Executive Council has completed discussions to introduce a temporary childcare allowance, which was first announced in the policy address by Macao’s Chief Executive Sam Hou, with the aim to provide financial support to families with young children.
The initiative will be available for children born between 2025 and 2027 who hold a valid Macao SAR Permanent Resident Identity Card. Each eligible child may receive the allowance for the year of their birth, and the following two years, totalling a maximum of three years.
The allowance will be disbursed annually, with each child receiving MOP$18,000 per year.
Additionally, recognising the childcare needs of children born before 2025 who are under three years old or have just turned three when the regulation takes effect, children born between 2022 and 2024 will also be eligible for the allowance. Depending on their individual circumstances, they may receive subsidies for one to three years.
The regulation will come into effect from 15 July 2025, and applications will be accepted starting 16 July.
Either parent can submit the application electronically no later than 30 June of the year following their child's birth. Once approved, the allowance will be paid via bank transfer within 60 days.
