Latest data shows stronger intra-regional trade and sustained investment flows supporting Asia’s continued economic expansion.
Asia’s economy is projected to expand by 4.5% in 2026, according to a report released by the Boao Forum for Asia, Bernama-Xinhua reported.
The forum is taking place in Boao, Hainan from 24 to 27 March under the theme “Shaping a shared future: New dynamics, new opportunities, new cooperation.”
The forecast was outlined in the Asian Economic Outlook and Integration Progress Annual Report 2026, which highlights ongoing economic resilience and regional integration.
Per the findings, Asia’s share of global gross domestic product (GDP) is expected to increase from 49.2% in 2025 to 49.7% in 2026, based on purchasing power parity.
According to Bernama-Xinhua, the report also noted that intra-regional trade dependence rose from 56.3% in 2023 to 57.2% in 2024, indicating stronger trade links within the region.
China and ASEAN were identified as key contributors to regional stability, as economies continue to strengthen cooperation and integration.
As further detailed in the report, APAC economies are increasingly shifting from participation in global value chains towards deeper regional integration, with progress in moving up the value chain. Additionally, Asia remains a leading destination for foreign direct investment, with China and ASEAN cited among the most attractive markets due to their growth potential and resilience.
On technology, a cited by Bernama-Xinhua, the report further highlights a gradual shift of the global centre of artificial intelligence development itowards Asia, supported by large digital populations, diverse application ecosystems, and policy frameworks.
As indicated overall, steady economic growth and deeper regional integration are to be expected across Asia, alongside continued strength in trade, investment, and technology development.
