Job vacancies in Malaysia noted a stronger annual increase of 123.3% in Q2 2022

Job vacancies in all eight occupation categories recorded increases in comparison with the previous quarter, with the professionals category registering the highest growth.

In the second quarter of 2022, the number of job vacancies in Malaysia advertised online edged up by 27% quarter-on-quarter to record 202,102 vacancies (Q1 2022: 159,148 vacancies).

According to the Department of Statistics Malaysia's update, job vacancies noted a stronger year-on-year increase of 123.3% in Q2 2022, compared to Q2 2021 (90,502 vacancies).

Particularly, job vacancies in all eight occupation categories recorded increases in comparison with the previous quarter, with the professionals category registering the highest growth (+15,100) and recording a total of 86,495 vacancies. This was followed by technicians and associate professionals at a total of 36,811 with an additional 8,600 vacancies.

According to the report, the five most popular jobs offered during the reference period were for advertising and marketing professionals, administrative associate professionals, accountants and auditors, managing directors and chief executives, and waiters.

Looking at the job vacancy situation by economic activity, most of the job vacancies in Q2 2022 were in the services sector, which made up a share of 57.3% (115,861 vacancies).

Manufacturing posted the highest number of job vacancies during the quarter with 42,188 vacancies. Just behind manufacturing at second, job vacancies in wholesale and retail trade encompassed 18.9% of the overall job vacancies, totalling 38,236. This was followed by professional, scientific, and technical activities at 19,011, while accommodation and food service activities recorded 15,944 vacancies during the quarter.

By state, most states recorded an increase except for Perlis and the Federal Territory of Putrajaya in Q2 2022. Overall, the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur had the highest number of job vacancies (88,500), followed by Selangor and Johor which registered 30,033 and 16,046 vacancies respectively.
