A Skills Framework (SFw) for Singapore's food manufacturing sector has been launched, focusing on career pathways, occupations and job roles, existing and emerging skills, and more in the sector.
It is jointly developed by SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG), Workforce Singapore (WSG), and Enterprise Singapore, together with industry associations, training providers, organisations and unions.
This is in line with the food manufacturing Industry Transformation Map (ITM) that is set to create about 2,000 new Professionals, Managers, Executives and Technicians (PMET) jobs for the sector from now till 2020.
The SFw contains information on the following.
Sector information
Identifies sectoral information such as trends and workforce profiles. The Guide to Occupation and Skills for the SFw for Food Manufacturing will be available in July 2018.Career pathways
Depicts the pathways for vertical and lateral progression for advancement and growth. Four tracks have been identified, covering 22 job roles:- Production - for eg, chief executive/MD and director of operations/plant manager.
- Quality assurance and quality control - for eg, QA and QC manager.
- Research and development - for eg, chief R&D officer and product technologist.
- Business development - for eg, general manager and export manager.
Occupations and job roles
Covers a total of 71 existing and emerging technical skills and competencies, 18 generic skills and competencies, and their respective descriptions. Some of the emerging skills and competencies identified include advanced processing technology, active and smart packaging, and recipe formulation.Training programmes for skills upgrade and mastery
Provides information on training programmes in two categories:- New entrants - for example, diploma in food & beverage business.
- In-service employees who aspire to take on more challenging roles at work - for example, problem solving and sense making programmes.
