Faces of HR: Certis’ Yee Ling Lee on how trust-led talent mobility can help employees build resilience

The people development leader shares why creating value for both the business and the individual must sit at the heart of talent mobility, and how trust and curiosity shape resilient teams.

A good day at work, according to Yee Ling Lee, VP, Group People Development, Certis is one where the impact of people development is clear. It is when growth can be seen not only in business outcomes, but in how people feel valued, supported, as well as enabled to grow.

In her work in people development, the focus is on helping individuals grow both personally and professionally, while supporting the organisation’s wider goals. This comes to life when business leaders are aligned and actively champion development initiatives, and when employees experience that support in meaningful ways.

Speaking to Mary Ann Bundukin ahead of #TalentMobility, Lee shares that talent mobility creates value for both the business and the individual. As a strategic priority, it supports retention and employer branding, while helping employees build resilience, develop faster, and grow over time.

Q What does a “good day” at work look like for you, that kind of day that reminds you why you love what you do in HR?

A good day is one where I can clearly see the impact of people development on both the business and our people. In people development, our focus is on enabling talent to grow personally and professionally. This comes to life when our business leaders are aligned and actively champion development initiatives, and our people genuinely feel valued and supported.

Q
People often turn to HR for support, but who or what helps you recharge and stay inspired?

I’m energised by collaborating with my teams on meaningful, impactful projects – ideating, co-creating and driving outcomes that benefit both the organisation and our people. I also stay inspired through continuous professional development, engaging with the broader HR community, and learning from evolving best practices in the field.

Q If you could describe your leadership philosophy in three words, what would they be, and how do these guide your approach to developing mobile, future-ready teams?

I believe in leading by example, extending trust and staying curious. I aim to model behaviours such as continuous learning, openness to feedback and adaptability to change, while creating opportunities to people – sometimes before they feel fully ready. This is how I foster a growth mindset and enable the development of high performing, future ready teams.

Q As a speaker at #TalentMobility, what is the key message you hope attendees will take away from your session?

Talent mobility is about creating value for both the business and the individual. As a strategic priority, it strengthens employee retention and employer branding. From an individual perspective, embedding mobility into how we think about careers, skills and leadership builds personal resilience, accelerates development, and drives growth.
