"Organisations that embrace clear, consistent pay structures will earn deeper loyalty, foster engagement, and build a culture where everyone feels seen and valued," says Piyanuch Limapornvanitch, Group Chief People Officer, Bitkub.
For Piyanuch Limapornvanitch (pictured above), Group Chief People Officer of Thai blockchain and digital asset company Bitkub, transparency isn’t just a workplace policy — it’s a rooted principle. With a background spanning various industries, her role sees her merging decentralised tech principles with HR, fostering transparency, autonomy, and accountability.
Passionate about the ‘power of people,’ she champions DEI and sees AI not just as a tool, but as a catalyst for human potential.
In an interview with Sabarish Prasad ahead of #TotalRewardsSG, Piyanuch shares how the role of rewards in talent attraction and retention has evolved in recent years — especially across the APAC markets, the traits rewards leaders need in order to keep up with evolving times, and more.
Q How has the role of rewards in talent attraction and retention changed in the past 5 years, especially in APAC?
Rewards used to be primarily about salary and bonuses. But over the past five years — especially post-COVID — priorities have shifted. The pandemic forced people to re-evaluate what matters most in life and work, putting health, purpose, and balance at the centre.
“Today, it's about the full employee experience: flexibility, wellbeing, growth opportunities, and feeling truly valued. In APAC, with its rich mix of cultures and generations, expectations have become more personalised. People now ask not just ‘What do I get?’ but ‘Does this reflect who I am and what I care about?’”
Q What’s one rewards trend you believe is here to stay?
Pay transparency and fairness are here to stay. More employees want clarity on how compensation is determined — and whether it’s equitable. It’s not just about numbers; it’s about trust. In an era where people expect more openness across all areas of life — from technology to organisations — transparency is no longer a bonus; it’s a baseline. Organisations that embrace clear, consistent pay structures will earn deeper loyalty, foster engagement, and build a culture where everyone feels seen and valued.
Q What traits do today’s (and future) rewards leaders need?
We must understand both the business and its people — seeing beyond the numbers to truly grasp the human experience at work. It’s not just about data; it’s about telling meaningful stories that help others understand the "why" behind decisions. And above all, we need to stay agile and open-minded. The world of work is evolving quickly, and clinging to old playbooks no longer works. Today’s leaders must blend strategy with empathy to create rewards that resonate on a deeper level.
Q What’s one big misunderstanding people have about total rewards?
Many still think total rewards begin and end with salary and benefits. In reality, it’s much broader—and far more human. Total rewards include moments of recognition, learning stipends, mental health support, flexible time off, career pathways, and even how feedback is given.
"It’s about designing an experience where employees feel seen, supported, and inspired — not just paid."
When done right, total rewards say: We value your life, not just your labour.
