Up the ranks: Umasuten Karisnan adds Singapore to his portfolio as Head of HR at Lattice Semiconductor

The leader is now Head of HR for Lattice Semiconductor Malaysia & Singapore, where his number one priority this year is employee engagement & retention in both markets.

Effective January 2024, Umasuten Karisnan (pictured above) has taken on an additional portfolio at Lattice Semiconductor, now in the designation of Head of HR for Lattice Semiconductor Malaysia & Singapore. Prior to this, he only held the portfolio for Malaysia.

Reporting to the CHRO based in the US, his core responsibilities in this new role include developing and implementing HR strategies for both markets, ranging from hiring to organisational development & capability, and what he also cites as his number one priority in the coming year — employee engagement & retention.

"[The] focus is more on how we can keep our employees engaged via the different retention levers and by focusing on employee wellbeing — mainly on mental health," he tells HRO.

When asked to comment on the top area of focus in the talent landscape this year, he shares: "We have very good diverse talent pool, and we hope to continuously see the talent pipeline coming from our universities, especially in the STEM sector."

At the same time, talking about the biggest area of opportunity, in terms of talent, that he is looking to leverage, he says: "We are continuously looking to build the design and development talent for the semiconductor industry. Malaysia, or more specifically Penang, is becoming very attractive to investors to build their deign hub given the talent availability, amazing infrastructure and political stability."
