The initiative aims to involve 16,500 participants across more than 100 community care touchpoints, with tasks including meal deliveries and accompanying seniors to medical appointments.
Older Singaporeans will have more opportunities to contribute to their communities through the newly launched Age Well Kakis programme, which aims to encourage sustained volunteerism and strengthen mutual care.
The programme was launched on 30 October 2026 by Tan Kiat How, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Digital Development and Information as well as the Ministry of Health (MOH) at the National Celebration of Seniors event.
Age Well Kakis builds on existing senior volunteerism efforts under Age Well SG, which supports seniors in leading active and purposeful lives while staying involved in their communities.
As of October 2026, volunteering opportunities are available at more than 100 community care touchpoints, including Active Ageing Centres (AACs) and other services provided by Community Care Organisations (CCOs).
Over the next two years, MOH and the Agency for Integrated Care (AIC) aim to engage around 16,500 participants in up to 700,000 volunteering opportunities within the community care sector.
Recognising and supporting sustained volunteerism
Under Age Well Kakis, participants can be matched with different volunteering opportunities, including supporting activities at AACs, delivering meals to vulnerable seniors, and accompanying seniors to medical appointments.
The aim of these opportunities is to allow participants to contribute their time and skills to support other seniors in ageing well within the community, while remaining active and socially connected themselves.
Participants can choose tasks based on their interests, abilities and availability. Tasks will typically be completed within a day, although their duration may vary, with some taking only a few hours.
To recognise their contributions and encourage sustained participation, volunteers will receive cash or in-kind stipends, such as vouchers, for completing their tasks.
The arrangements will vary according to the nature and duration of each volunteering opportunity. The respective organisations will determine the stipend amount and payment arrangements.
Expanding volunteering opportunities in community care
The programme builds on existing practices in the community care sector, where volunteers support fellow seniors and complement the work of care staff.
By matching participants with opportunities suited to their strengths and interests, Age Well Kakis aims to help more seniors stay engaged, connected, and purposeful, while strengthening community participation and mutual support.
MOH will work with AIC and CCOs to grow the programme and expand the range of volunteering opportunities available.
Strengthening participation and mutual help in the wider community
Age Well Kakis is part of a broader effort by MOH and the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) to create more opportunities for Singaporeans to contribute to their communities.
This also includes the People's Association's (PA) Neighbourhood Kakis programme, which was first piloted in 2024.
Together, Age Well Kakis and Neighbourhood Kakis aim to engage around 30,000 participants over two years, expanding opportunities for Singaporeans to contribute across community care and neighbourhood settings.
Individuals aged 50 and above who are interested in participating in Age Well Kakis can visit the AIC website, call AIC's hotline at 1800-650-6060, or approach their nearest AAC to find out more about available opportunities.
