Building on the Jobs Transformation Map for Wholesale Trade, it was designed to ensure the sector remains competitive and relevant in an evolving marketplace.
The Jobs-Skills Integrator for Wholesale Trade (JSIT-WST) was launched on 5 August 2024, at an event attended by Singapore's Minister of State for Trade and Industry and Culture, Community and Youth Mr. Alvin Tan.
Enterprise Singapore (EnterpriseSG) has appointed the Singapore Business Federation (SBF) to spearhead the JSIT-WST initiative, with the aim to drive workforce transformation, enhance employee training, and provide job matching services across the industry. The initiative is further supported by Workforce Singapore (WSG) and SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG).
The JSIT-WST initiative was introduced in Budget 2023, and was designed to support small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and mid-career workers in the wholesale trade sector.
As the industry navigates rapid digital advancements and heightened sustainability demands, the initiative will aim to provide a centralised hub for companies and workers to access essential training and talent resources.
Building on the Jobs Transformation Map for Wholesale Trade, it was designed to ensure the sector remains competitive and relevant in an evolving marketplace.
Under the JSIT-WST, SMEs looking to transform their workforce can leverage the support of the SBF and its industry partners, which comprise of training providers and employment agencies. The goal is to address both current and future skills gaps through job redesign, reskilling, and job matching services.
In that vein, SBF will deploy Jobs Skills Advisors to collaborate with companies, providing tailored advisory and training recommendations to meet employees' upskilling and reskilling needs. These services include:
- Job redesign and reskilling: To enhance workforce productivity and capabilities, and identify higher value-added jobs to enhance revenue growth.
- Job matching and hiring support: To find talent with relevant skills via artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted job matching tools, and implement new jobs and skills initiatives.
- Jobs and skills analysis: To adopt human resources analytics tools to better identify employees’ jobs and skills gaps.
Kok Ping Soon, Chief Executive Officer, Singapore Business Federation, shared that as the Jobs-Skills Integrator for the wholesale trade sector, SBF will leverage its network of industry partners and pool of Jobs Skills Advisors, to assist companies in strengthening their human capital capabilities.
"We aim to engage more than 1,700 companies, support more than 1,200 job placements as well as reskill and upskill around 1,600 workers in the industry.
"The JSIT-WST programme is designed to address this through public-private partnerships to support both strategy and implementation for real output and positive impact.”
During his speech at the event, Minister Tan Alvin Tan, Minister of State for Trade and Industry and Culture, Community and Youth, said: "The initiative will help wholesale trade companies tap SBF’s resources to address your human capital needs.
Over the next three years, he added, SBF will also implement a suite of resources to help wholesale trade enterprises address placement needs, as well as potential jobs and skill gaps.
