Photos and roundup: Workforce Mobility Interactive 2017, Malaysia

Organised by Human Resources and produced by Priya Veeriah this year, Workforce Mobility Interactive is back for the third year with the latest in talent mobility and expatriation trends in HR. This exclusive invite-only interactive event was specially curated for top HR leaders and mobility specialists to engage each other with strategies on staff mobility programmes.

Held at InterContinental Kuala Lumpur on 16 February, the Workforce Mobility Interactive 2017 Malaysia brought a stellar line-up of talent mobility experts who shared their insights into some of the biggest challenges. Attended by more than 70 professionals, the conference saw a series of interesting keynote presentations, panel discussions and interactive round tables.

Kickstarting the conference was Richard Willeter, director of corporate services Asia, Crown World Mobility with his presentation on the mobility landscape for the year, including issues such as the rise of new-age patriotism and the gig economy. He also shared his expert opinions on closing the assignee gender gap. He said: “There are different concerns when it comes to female assignees - such as where they are with their families. So we need to be more agile in closing this gap.”

Following that, the second panel moderated by Wilsen Isuwaren, head of human resources at Bata Malaysia, touched on the ways you can measure effectiveness of a mobility programme.

Joining the discussion were Chandralakshmi Thiruchelvam, head of rewards, Heineken; Muniandy Maruthiah, regional human resource director, Dell; and Chiou Thien-Ling, head of group human resources, head of group employee relations and organisational development, Tan Chong Group.

Thiruchelvam highlighted how it is essential for Heineken to ensure that every next assignee has a much richer on-boarding experience. With Dell sharing the same sentiments, Maruthiah commented: “It’s not only about retaining key talent, but enriching the employee’s career experience.”
