In June, commercial real estate company CBRE moved into a 22,500 square feet office at One Pacific Place, Admiralty.

Inspired by Hong Kong’s unique traits – a blend of fast-paced life fused with nature – CBRE designed the new workplace with the theme ‘City and Park’ in mind.

“When you look at Hong Kong as a city, it’s a city made of cities, beautiful buildings, as well as the public parks, we felt that we should design our office to showcase the best of Hong Kong,” said Tom Gaffney, regional managing director for the Greater Bay Area & Hong Kong at CBRE.

When employees and visitors step into the office, they are greeted by two hosts in uniforms standing next to a centrepiece entitled “Continue”, created by local wood upcycling artist Parry Ling. Built from woodblocks upcycled from the city’s tree debris, the concierge table together with other smaller decorative pieces in the office represent a new life of urban wood. Additionally, self-sufficient plant walls and natural elements of the outdoors are woven throughout the office.

To reflect the ‘City’ side, the team installed a neon light decorative piece, artworks created by local artists and themed meeting rooms according to the names of beaches in Hong Kong.

Since transparency, authenticity and collaboration are heavily stressed in CBRE’s culture, CBRE has adopted a flexible workplace strategy where there is no assigned seating and a clean-desk policy is in place.

A LED TV screen is installed in the office displaying the real-time front of house view of the other office, enhancing visibility and connectivity of both offices as well as adding greater flexibility in event management.

“We really want a very open and versatile working space so our staff can move freely and make connections with colleagues seamlessly,” Gaffney said.

To cater to employees’ various concentration needs, the office features multiple areas such as library, phone booth and even a wellness room – a room that can be locked when an employee wants to enjoy personal space and destress.

CBRE also partnered with The Coffee Academics to build a cafe offering healthy food and beverages inside the office.
