Number of employed persons in Malaysia rose 1.9% y-o-y in August: DOSM

Malaysia saw a growth in the percentage of employed persons from August 2018 to August this year, the Department of Statistics recently revealed.

In particular, there were 15.19mn employed persons as at August this year, a 1.9% rise year-on-year (y-o-y), per the Key Statistics of Labour Force in Malaysia, August 2019.

Overall, the country's labour force participation rate rose 0.1 percentage points (pp) from 68.5% in July 2019 to 68.6% in August, and 0.2pp y-o-y (August 2018: 68.4%).

On the other hand, the unemployment rate in Malaysia remained at 3.3% in August this year, for the fourth consecutive month. That said, there was a drop in the number of unemployed persons accounted for (520,200), a 0.9% drop month-on-month.
