Monster aims to dominate online recruitment in Asia

In an attempt to revolutionise online recruitment across Asia, Monster.com has launched a host of new features, apps and smart analytics tools to help recruiters find suitable talent more effectively.

After a year-long R&D process to plug gaps within the talent landscape, the recruitment solutions provider has announced a Monster Mobile App, new professional networking features and Monster Analytics, to strengthen the connection between employers or recruiters, and job seekers.

Sanjay Modi, managing director for Monster.com in India, Middle East, Southeast Asia and Hong Kong, said these enhancements aim to provide better access for all users, keeping up to date with the needs of the recruitment industry.

"Rapid changes in the digital landscape are changing consumers’ behaviour patterns. A lot has changed in both online and mobile, in the way people access and consume information. If we don't map to their change in behaviour, we risk becoming irrelevant," he told Human Resources.

Perhaps the biggest change for the company is the inclusion of professional networking, which allows job seekers and recruiters to create unique profiles and connect with each other for more compatible job placements.

Job seekers can import external contacts and keep in touch with relevant career insights, recruiters and companies, while recruiters can tap into features which allow them to identify the best talent, and set up recruiter profiles to share and post jobs and company updates.

Users will no doubt draw parallels between these new features and LinkedIn, but Modi said their platform is "very specific" and the professional networking aspect is for jobs only - not random connections.

"The sole purpose of your networking has to be jobs. There are two important things - either you should have worked with the person, or you should have studied together," he said.

"These are the pillars on the basis of which you network. In the rest of the professional networking space, connections are being built with no common background."

To help passive job seekers better connect with potential opportunities, the new app includes a unique function - a customised Avatar feature - which segments job seekers by experience based on their career lifecycle, and then matches their career needs to job opportunities.

They will receive alerts to relevant jobs even if they're not on the job hunt.

"You are not always looking for a job but there is a big possibility that you may miss an opportunity you always desired while you were not looking," said Modi.

The newly-designed Monster Analytics also helps recruiters make better hiring decisions by granting them access to data on the experience levels, domains and companies that talent transition from and goes to.

"When you map the recruitment landscape across this region, some things are common," Modi said. "All the markets are struggling with a demand and supply gap. It is about finding the right candidate for the job."

These new features are being rolled out across Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Hong Kong and India.
