Malaysia to vet all foreign workers

Malaysia’s Human Resources Ministry will be working together with other ministries including the Home Ministry to better manage the influx of foreign workers into the country.

Human Resources Minister Datuk Richard Riot told Bernama it will be compulsory for “each and every foreign worker” to undergo a vetting process, which will focus on their health and criminal records, before being allowed to work in Malaysia.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam added workers who wish to relocate to Malaysia will have to undergo two health screenings – one in their home country and another in Malaysia.

He also said those who may have passed the screening in their home country but fails the one in Malaysia will be repatriated.

Riot added the vetting process will take effect immediately.
