Malaysia to continue allowing walk-ins for passport renewals & applications

Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has affirmed a commitment to completing the documentation for walk-in applications within a day.

Malaysia will continue allowing international passport applications and renewals for the public via walk-in.

As Malaysia's Minister of Home Affairs Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, who was cited in a report by Astro AWANI, has affirmed, the government is committed to completing the documentation for walk-in applications within a day.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic period up to February 2023, the Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM) issued 2.5mn passports, of which 45% of applications were made online, the Minister said.

As further quoted in Astro AWANI's report, he said: "Filing in the form according to the conditions, with a quality photo, [takes] less than five minutes.

"It's just that his (the individual's) passport will take a few days to be ready, compared to walk-in, which will be ready on the same day."

This was in response to a question in Dewan Rakyat regarding "proactive and progressive solutions in overcoming the issue of serious congestion for passport matters" at JIM, along with a proposal to reinstate the walk-in application process.
