Malaysia's 2027 public holidays: Full list of federal and state holidays

There are 15 federal holidays in total, with additional holidays varying across states and federal territories. Here's your guide to all dates, including state-specific religious, cultural, and royal observances.

Malaysia has released its public holiday schedule for 2027, giving employers and employees a reference for planning the year ahead.

The schedule, issued by the Cabinet, Constitution and Intergovernmental Relations Division under the Prime Minister’s Department, sets out the federal and state public holidays for 2027.

Nationwide holidays

The 2027 schedule lists 15 federal public holidays. However, not every federal holiday applies in exactly the same way across all states, as the schedule also sets out state-specific holidays and observances.

The official schedule also lists the dates for Hari Raya Puasa, Hari Raya Qurban (or Hari Raya Aidilfitri), and Deepavali as subject to change.

Several federal holidays fall on weekends in 2027, including Chinese New Year’s second day on 7 February, Labour Day on 1 May, Awal Muharam on 6 June, Maulidur Rasul on 15 August, and Christmas Day on 25 December – which means at least five long weekends to look forward to in the year.

Additional public holidays by state

Beyond the federal holidays, employees may also observe additional public holidays depending on where they work.

Public holidays subject to change

The official schedule marks certain dates with an asterisk to indicate that they are subject to change. For 2027, these include Hari Raya Puasa, Hari Raya Qurban, Deepavali and Awal Ramadan.

Pay entitlement for working on public holidays

Employers are reminded that employees required to work on a public holiday are entitled to public holiday pay, in accordance with Section 60D(3) of the Act.
