MAB Academy's new simulator building aims to strengthen aviation training in Malaysia

The building's layout will facilitate close instructor–trainee interaction whilst encouraging consistent training delivery, and aims to promote a structured approach to developing operational discipline.

MAB Academy has taken a step forward in its training journey with the launch of a new Simulator Building at the South Support Zone in Sepang. The facility comes as part of the academy's long-term goal of strengthening aviation, hospitality, and professional development while preparing talent for the realities of modern operations.

The launch brought together key industry and government leaders alongside YB Loke Siew Fook, Minister of Transport:

  • Dato' Amirul Feisal Wan Zahir, Managing Director, Khazanah Nasional
  • Datuk Captain Izham Ismail, Group Managing Director, MAG, and
  • Captain Nasaruddin A. Bakar, President and Group CEO-designate, MAG.

The Simulator Building features six full-flight simulator bays, including the A330neo, Boeing 737-800NG, and ATR 72-500, along with dedicated training spaces seeking to create a focused and effective learning environment. The layout supports close instructor–trainee interaction, whilst encouraging consistent training delivery, and aims to promote a structured approach to developing operational discipline.

The opening also marks the completion of MAB Academy’s move away from its 40-year-old Subang Training Centre, signalling a shift towards becoming a one-stop aviation learning centre.

Speaking at the launch, Minister Loke said investments in advanced simulation and training help ensure aviation professionals remain operationally ready.

"This strengthens safety standards, builds operational capability, and positions Malaysia as a reliable and capable aviation hub in the region," he noted.

Datuk Captain Izham added that the facility plays a role in the group’s broader transformation agenda under its Long-Term Business Plan 3.0 (LTBP 3.0), which focuses on disciplined, sustainable growth and operational leadership.

"Our focus has always been on preparing aviation professionals for the realities of operations, and this facility strengthens that commitment by ensuring training is relevant, rigorous, and grounded in real-world experience," he elaborated.

Beyond flight simulation, the facility also brings together integrated safety and emergency training facilities. This includes a Cabin Emergency Evacuation Trainer and a water survival training pool with wave simulation — said to be the first such facility of its kind in Malaysia.

Looking ahead, MAB Academy aims to further strengthen its simulator capabilities with the introduction of the Boeing 737-8 full flight simulator, with expected operations to begin from July 2026.

"This next-generation simulator will further strengthen technical training capacity and support the evolving fleet and operational requirements of airlines across the region," MAG shared.
